CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)

After this lesson, I have learnt that CSS is a style sheet language. It is used to describe the look and formatting. CSS is designed to enable the separation of document content from document presentation, such as layout, fonts and colours. The CSS specifications are mantained by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Personally, I like the format as it is similar to what is available in Microsoft Word, therefore it is easy to learn. It gives each of us flexibility, so that all websites do not look and feel the same, and one can exercise his own creativity.

HTML

After this complicated "HTML" lesson, I have finally changed my perspective towards creating a website. With a little patience, I will reach my goal in no time. I may be taking baby steps, but I believe that, i will be able to create a website of my own.

I have learnt that "HTML" stands for HyperText Markup Language. This is the first programming language that I have learnt. I hope to learn more programming language in the future.

Differences between blog and website

After week 3 lesson, I have learnt about the differences between a blog and a website.

As a newbie, I will definitely go for a blog. But if I am an experienced person using the internet for commercial purpose, I will opt for a website. Your choice depends on your internet comfort level and the reason for being on the internet. A blog is sufficent for me to pen down my feelings and to update my friends on my latest.

There are many differences, but I picked the top three to share.

  1. HTML coding
Blog - no need to learn
    Website - HTML is needed
  2. Adding and updating content
    Blog - easy
Website - Formatting is required conform to the website's design.(Hard)
  3. Time required
Blog - Immediate (once sign on, can have blog up)
Website - Requires domain pointers, web design and uploading files before is is visible.

Once I master how to set up a blog, i will then learn how to set up a website. For now. I prefer a blog to a website.

The Internet and WWW

I have learnt much about the internet after the first lesson.

For instance, I have learnt how the internet works, what is a domain name and many more other interesting facts about the internet.

I have also learnt that there are 9 basic types of websites of which each provide different types of information.

For example, people that are more into games can visit an entertainment website
while people that are interested in purchasing items online can visit a marketing website.

The most interesting fact is that from just 4 host nodes using the internet in 1969, it has increased to more than 200 million host nodes today! It is indeed a big difference !
